If you are new to Yin Yoga and interested in why and how you might want to add this practice to your weekly routine, this practice is for you. In this video I explain the basic tenets of Yin Yoga and apply the principles to a practice suitable for any and all practitioners. We use props to support our holds and cover what is appropriate depth, hold times and sensations you may feel in a Yin Yoga practice, including using the breath to deepen our poses. Look for more practices this year in this Beginner Yin series to help you develop the perfect practice for you!
Basic Principles of Yin Yoga
1. Come to your appropriate edge (not your maximum pose but a little bit less)
2. Settle in using whatever props your need to release muscle engagement and become still.
3. Commit to stillness and hold the pose for a period of time.
Props: 2 blankets OR beach towels (or pick up here:
http://amzn.to/2v0U0eh), 2 blocks (block: http://amzn.to/2sIEm6L)
Meridians: All Meridians
What is Yin Yoga? In Yin Yoga we hold poses passively without muscle engagement to mobilize and strengthen the connective tissue, joints, ligaments and bones. Always connect with your body and breath and come into the pose slowly, to approximately 2/3 of your maximum depth (your appropriate edge), being mindfully aware of all the sensations. We hold these poses for 1-10 minutes and while this can be challenging at times, try to settle in, breath and commit to the stillness. Feel free to use whatever props you need to support yourself to release muscles and fully experience the practice!
Thank you for practicing with me today and I look forward to practicing with you again very soon!
Peace & Namaste,
Aprille
